DO's
- Prepare well in advance, don't leave things for the last moment.
- Your pointers don't affect your placement to that extent.
- Dress smartly
- Prioritize your tasks, devote more time to things you know you are weak at and less to things you know you can do with lesser practice
- Make a schedule for your preparations
for eg: Devote 1 hr daily to reading newspapers or any book that you like (for improving comprehension)
2 hrs for practicing reasoning and logical ability, 0.5 hrs for practicing timed tests etc.
Your schedule depends on your own priorities and abilities. - Read experiences of people who have appeared in the interview from the same company recently. You can get the same from various websites over the internet.
- Know yourself, you must know what are your strengths and your weaknesses. Interviewers appreciate a person who is aware of themselves, because only if you know what you need to improve you can work for it. It would not only increase you chances of selection but also help you select the right profile for yourself.
- Watch your body language, 50% analysis is done when you enter the room. The way you sit, the way you walk tells a lot about your personality.
- Get to know your company- It is high crucial that you know about the company well in advance before entering the interview room. This shows your eagerness to join the organisation. There have been several instances where interview questions have been framed to check your prior knowledge about the company.
- Listen carefully to the pre-placement talk- Every company will give a presentation about what the company is all about before the interview takes place. It is of utmost importance that you listen to everything they say carefully and if needed note the important pints in your notebook. Interviewers often test your attentiveness and mindfulness by asking questions, the answer to which lies in the ppt given by them the same morning or a day before.
DON'TS
- Panic and join an MBA coaching just for preparing for the company aptitude, because it's a completely different thing.
- Depend on your look- no matter how smart you are but you need to prove that you are committed towards your goals too, because looks do not matter but personality does.
- Think others who have been been involved in various activities in college stand a better chance than you. Because confidence comes from within. And no company would judge you on that basis so why do you judge yourself on that?
- Be overconfident, don't think you know everything because in any given topic there are questions that you won't know no matter how hard you try. And being overconfident is also regarded as an insult to the interviewer.
- Wear perfumes, because you never know when the interviewer is allergic to certain smells, and trust me this is not a good way to find out.
- Wear vibrant or shiny colors for the GD/PI
- Don't take stress, when you are not able to answer a question. But remember there are thousand questions the interviewer can ask that you don't know the answer of and there are thousand questions you can ask the interviewer that he may not know but the trick here is not to know every question/ answer but to remain calm no matter what.
